April And The
White Stone.
Chapter 1
The stone
“Mama, Mama. Where are you Mama?” A girl by the name of April walked out of the dinning room, with her long blonde hair and a plain green dress bouncing behind her. In her arms was a large pile of towels and a few garments draped around her filth covered arms. “Mama there you are, I have the towels. They are fresh from the line and I just folded them” said April. Her mother who had just came out in a gold colored gown, her hair in a fancy half hair bun says, “Well what do you want, an applause? Go and put them away in the cupboard you vile girl. And when you are done, go tend to the animals before it gets dark.”
April went to turn away when her mother slapped her across the face. “Never turn your back to me!” said Esmè. Esmè was her mothers’ name. April turned around and removed her hand from the place her mother struck her. Under it was all red and starting to swell. “Yes ma’am, it won’t happen again” Said April with a tear in her eye. “Well it had better not, or you will be sleeping with the pigs!” said Esmè. Esmè turned her heal, swung her dress, and went along her business leaving April all alone in the kitchen with her hand pressed against her red cheek and tears coming down her face.
April stood and wiped her tears off her face, and went to put the load of towels away when something caught her eye, something shiny. It was stuck in between two of the wooden floorboards in the doorway of the kitchen. She walked carefully over to the object, making note that her mother was in the parlor having another drink. She bent down and touched the item. “Ow!” whispered April It burned her fingers, as if it was a hot piece of coal she was touching.
She turned and went to the cupboard and put away the towels, leaving one in her hand and then hung the garments on the back of a chair. She took the towel and moved towards the item and used the towel to keep from burning her hands again. When she bent down and picked up the item it was heavy, but no longer hot. Making sure that her mother was still nowhere near she picked up the object with caution.
Rolling the stone like object in her hand she went to put it in her pocket when her mother came back in to the kitchen and found her still there. “What are you still doing in here? Aren’t you supposed to be ten-, What do you have in your hand?” paused Esmè, starring at the girl with dangerous eyes. “Nothing” lied April trying to hide the stone so that her mother couldn’t find it. Esmè strode over to the girl and opened her hand, but when she got there, there was no stone to be found.
Esmè looked around hoping to find what her daughter had in her palm but failed to find it. “Go feed the animals then and stay out of my sight!” April backed away not daring turn her back to her mother again. When she got out of her mother’s line of view she looked in to her hand with interest. There lie the stone, bright white as could be, with little gold speckles, a bright purple spot in the middle, and it just a little larger then a pocket watch yet heavier than three. She looked at the stone and felt it, just to make sure she wasn’t seeing things. Then she thought to herself, why could she so plainly see and feel the stone when her mother could not? And why had she never seen it there in the doorway before then?
* *
After feeding the animals, April went back in to her house and went down the little staircase across from the dining room that leads to her room. She opened up the door only to reveal a medium closet sized room. In the small room was a bed stand, a large bundle of cloth laid out to be a bed and a small dresser with 3 drawers with a hairbrush and a small mirror with a crack on it.
The girl, now almost sixteen, laid the stone down on her bed stand to change in to her nightgown to go to sleep. When she put the stone down all of a sudden extra blankets appeared on the bed, and her mirror was no longer cracked. She looked at the bed and touched the extra bedding to see if what seeing was seeing was real. It was, not only was it real but it was really soft and fluffy, and when she laid her hand down on the bed, it felt really warm.
She turned around and noticed that her dresser had clothes bursting out of it like it would if you were to have to many gowns all stuffed in to one drawers. She picked up her mirror and almost cried. She had accidentally drooped this mirror her father gave to her, when her mother told her that he was leaving her and wasn’t taking her with her like he always did, leaving April with her mother who never liked her, thus cracking it forever.
April took the mirror and hugged it and noticed something else, on her bed there was a small lump under the cover, and it moved. Now frightened she grabbed the hairbrush ready to launch it at the lump. She moved closer to the bed and heard a “bark.” NO, thought April, it couldn’t be! She removed the covers to her bed and there lie a puppy, no bigger than 3-4 months old, it was a Labrador, white with a large black spot on his head, as if it were hair. The dog barked again and got on its feet and jumped in to the shocked girl’s arms kissing her all over her face.
Setting the puppy aside April went back to her dresser and pulled one of the nightgowns that had appeared. After slipping it on she felt the soft bright blue fabric on her face and she smiled. April climbed in to her warm bed and pulled the puppy close to her and blew out the candle in her room. She feel asleep almost instantly hoping that all that had happened with the stone, and the puppy, who she had decided to name Isaac after her father, were real.
Chapter 2
Big secret
The next morning April woke up to see that nothing had changed back. She still had her puppy and her fluffy bed. April yawned, stretched, and got up quickly eager to see the new clothes that had appeared the following night. She felt like she just got a whole bunch of presents for Hanukkah and get to open them all at once.
April went over to the dresser and opened its magnificent chestnut drawers and saw the most beautiful gowns that even a queen would envy. April decided though not to where them that moment, for fear of what her mother would do to her if she found out. So in then end she decided to just where them around the other servants, who were very kind to April and would believe her when she told them the truth about the rock, and all of the things that appeared in her room.
She put on one of the gowns that her mother bought for her. The shade brown that it was reminded her of the dirt that she works in all day long in the gardens. She went over to her bed to say good bye to Isaac, and when she got there was wagging his tail, as if waiting for her to come to him. “I will go and get you some food and water I think, you look hungry.” April told him. Isaac went up to the girl and placed his front paws on her shoulders and gave her a big wet kiss right on the nose.
After April got up the stairs one of the servants that worked at the house was standing at the top of the stairs. “The madam wants to see you in the parlor miss, and you ‘ad better got a good reason for not getting up early enough to feed the chickens. The miss is mighty angry, you best be careful now. And also before you do it, I took the liberty of doing all of the morning chores you missed with your sleeping in.” Said Eda who was Esmès’ maid. Eda was always nice to April, but when she did something to upset her mother, no one was happy. “Thank you very much Eda, I appreciate it. When I am done with mother, I need to tell you something very important, but it is a secret, so don’t tell anyone.
April went in to the parlor expecting to find her mother in a fowl mood. Bracing herself for any beating or yelling that might happen. When she walked in she found her mother smiling and laughing with a gentleman who was in the room.
“Oh, it’s you. I wanted to let you know Eda has done all of your morning work and you best thank her for that or there will be hell to pay.” Nodding, April was about to tell her that she already had said thank you but her mother wouldn’t let her speak. Esmè interrupted her by saying “ Now you go down to the gardens and pick whatever is ripe, and when you are done with that you will dust the entire house, sweep and mop the floors, wipe all the windows clean. When you are done with all that you will do my laundry. Got all that?” Not waiting for an answer Esmè said “Good. Now leave us be and don’t return until all your chores are done.”
After backing out of the room, although it made no difference, Esmè was paying no attention to her, as she just went right back to starring and laughing with the gentleman friend she had with her. April went down to the kitchen and got her self and Isaac some food. She took the meat that she got and took it to the dog so that he had something good to eat. As for April, she got a small slice of bread and cheese that had been set out for her early in the morning by her mother as she always does so that April doesn’t get the better food.
She took the meat down to Isaac who was very thank full for the food, and ate it with no arguments. After they were both done with their breakfast, April said good bye one more time and went to go to work.
When April reached the gardens Eda was already there picking the veggies. “There you are child, I was beginning to worry about you. What did your mother say?” asked Eda. “Well I have to do extra chores today, other than that she wasn’t in any mood to yell because of that man. Who was he any way?” asked April. “Well as you know your mother is very, well, any way. She has started to date again and that man was the reason she wasn’t here for diner last night.” answered Eda. “Now what was that big secret you had to tell me?”
April told her all about the stone in the kitchen, leaving out the part where she got hit. “And when I put the stone down on my side table, a whole bunch of stuff appeared in my room that I am for sure that were not there before.” Then April told her about the nightgown and the puppy. “What do you think would have caused this? Could it possibly be the stone?”
“I don’t think you should tell anyone about this April, it sounds dangerous!” said Eda.
“Well I don’t think it is and I want to find out what it is!” April told her. “And I will with or with out your help!”
“Oh now! You know I will help you to the end of the world if you needed it, but this sounds like witchcraft. You don’t want to meddle in witchcraft April. It is very dangerous!” Eda told her. “I want to help you but you have to promise me that you won’t let your mother find out about this. If she did she would have both our heads for dinner!”

This story is really good. How the girl treats her daughter kind of sounds familiar. The only thing that I can find wrong with the story is that you are supposed to start a new paragraph each time someone speaks. You did at the end but you should stay consistent throughout the whole story .
